Ahead of the November 16 Kogi State governorship election, stakeholders from across the 11 wards of the Kogi/Koton Karfi local government, Wednesday declared their support for the aspiration of Admiral Usman Jubril (rtd) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The stakeholders and other supporters during a meeting at Okpaka, Kogi LG, and which had in attendance the representative of Jubril, Mr. Emmanuel Ekele, said that their support for Jubril, a former chief of naval staff, is hinged on his capacity to move the state forward.
They said that without prejudice to the mode of primary adopted by the national leadership of the party, Jubril’s remains the ‘man to beat’, and the popular choice of Kogi people.
Addressing the large group of supporters, Musa Ibrahim, chairman, G11 Support Group for Jubril, said that their support was not based on sentiments, but on the antecedents of aspirant, who they said in less than eighteen months as naval chief, impacted on thousands of people within and outside of Kogi.
According to them: “If as a chief of staff, he can bring navy (Forward Operation Base) to Banda in Lokoja; he can bring navy to Idah; bring navy to Okene; and a befitting navy secondary school to Okura, in Kogi East; initiate women and youth empowerment programmes, all within eighteen months, how much more will such an individual deliver, on becoming governor of Kogi State. And, this is why we have decided on going the whole way to support him.
“I Kogi/Koton Karfe LG, we have decided not only to support, but to endorse Admiral Usman Jubril, and that’s why we called this stakeholders meeting from across the eleven wards, to reiterate our decision.
“We know Kogi is a complicated state that needs matured mind to address the issues confronting us. And, irrespective of the mode of party primary adopted, or the deceit employed in securing same, our determination as a people will prevail in the choice of a candidate that will set Kogi free from bandage”.
Commending the stakeholders and APC adherents for their support, Jubril described the people of Lokoja as the political pacesetters of the state, and among those that have always supported progress.
He assured them of a ‘fair deal, saying, “I will not make salary payment an achievement, but the right of our people. We must set the agenda that will require that those in leadership are answerable to the people and that they give account of all that they are entrusted to do”.
