Kogi council workers reject part salary payment

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

The Joint Action Union (JAC) of local government workers in Kogi State has rejected the 25 and 30 per cent salary the state government paid its employees.

The unions, which comprise the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) and Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), made this known after their state administrative council meeting in Lokoja.

While expressing their displeasure about the way the state government was treating local government workers, the unions said the state government has failed to meet their demands despite collecting April and May allocations from the Federal Government.

They also observed that local government pensioners received between 35 and 50 per cent of their salary saying: Workers in the local government were expecting something better from what they have been collecting in the past.”
In a statement issued by NLC Chairman, Comrade Onuh Edoka and his TUC counterpart, Ronti Ojo, they lamented the sufferings of workers in the state.
