Neymar wants to leave PSG; Paul Pogba wants out of Manchester United. But with few clubs able to justify the kind of outlay required to buy either player outright, it seems both are stuck for now. Unless…
PSG and United could just swap? That was the solution proposed by PSG, according to The Independent, which is reporting that the French side tabled the idea of a direct exchange in talks between the two clubs earlier this summer.
United’s objection was two-fold. Firstly, it would cost them a sodding fortune. Neymar is said to earn around £900,000 (NINE-HUNDRED THOUSAND) per week, which Ed Woodward can’t justify. If he thought the Alexis Sanchez deal was causing him grief, just wait until Marcus Rashford knocks on the door and demands half a million a week to stay with his boyhood club.
Secondly, Woodward, still wants to keep Pogba. Apparently, all United’s football staff are open to the idea of a Pogba-free existence but Woodward, for whatever reason, can’t bear to part with his biggest purchase.
It must also have crossed Woodward’s mind that if Neymar can’t be arsed with living in Paris while playing for a Champions League side, it’s unlikely he will suddenly discover motivation while living in north-west England and traipsing off to far-flung corners of Europe in the Europa League. Barcelona makes sense.
UNITED COULD REIGNITE SANCHO INTEREST
If Pogba does eventually leave United, and all the suggestions are that he will try everything to make that happen, then Woodward might look to Jadon Sancho as his new pet.
United have been linked with the England winger for months but the trail seemed to go cold while United’s season ground to an excruciating conclusion.
Their failure to qualify for the Champions League made Sancho reassess his initial enthusiasm to join the Red Devils while the financial cost of their dreadful run-in made the £100million rather less attractive to the money men at Old Trafford.
But Forbes has floated the idea that should Pogba fetch the kind of fee United would expect, then they could resurrect their interest in Sancho (though him being a right-footed right winger might be a problem).
Expect Woodward’s opening offer to Borussia Dortmund to be £10million up front with hefty add-ons for every Ballon d’Or, World Cup, Nobel Peace Prize, General Election and Love Island he wins in a United shirt.
